Program Spotlight
Culinary Arts

With some of the most advanced and fully-equipped kitchens among the country's high school culinary arts departments, Barry Tech offers students a chance to learn the skills that can help them obtain jobs in top restaurants or earn acceptance at leading culinary colleges.

Taught by professional chefs with a combined total of more than sixty years in the business, the Culinary Arts courses put students in kitchens, preparing dishes and entire meals that are served at selected Nassau BOCES functions. "I treat the students in the program the same way I would treat any professionals in an actual restaurant," says Senior Chef Paul Magro.

The newly renovated kitchen contains 80 burners, 24 ovens, and ample workspace, presenting many opportunities for all students to practice cooking techniques at the same time.

Testimony to the quality of the Barry Tech Culinary Arts program is the fact that the school has negotiated an "articulation" agreement with the prestigious Culinary Institute of America by which students completing the Barry Tech Culinary Arts program will receive a minimum of 4-l/2 credits toward a degree from CIA.
