Auto Technology / Auto Body / Auto Skills

"Many body shop owners are former Barry Tech students," says Auto Technology teacher John Gaare. "They own their own businesses; they're successful people. Now they come back to the school and they hire our students."

Gaare's observation underscores the real-world instruction that Barry Tech offers students in the various auto programs.

Taught by professional auto mechanics and individuals experienced in all aspects of auto repair, the auto courses at Barry Tech give students the knowledge and skills to confidently and expertly perform repairs to engines, chassis and suspension systems, transmissions, electrical systems and power plants, and to handle all aspects of auto body repair.

With a state-of-the-art painting facility and the latest electronic and hydraulic test equipment, students learn to diagnose today's sophisticated foreign and domestic vehicles.

The program maintains strong industry contacts and students intern at repair shops, body shops, service stations and leading dealerships throughout Long Island. Observes Mike Deacetis of Westbury Nissan: "These students are learning on up-to-date equipment. When they move into a full-time position, they're already familiar with all the equipment they find in the shop."
