![]() Career 'vanguards' hail from Freeport, Port Washington
Two Nassau BOCES Barry Tech students earned statewide recognition as finalists in the 2010 Vanguard Student Recognition program. Tanyria Taylor, a police science student from Freeport, and Cesia Estrada, an aviation operations student from Port Washington, were selected as finalists in the awards program for teens pursuing nontraditional career paths. They were honored during a special awards luncheon for all of Barry Tech's student Vanguards. Seeing the value in such "out of the box" thinking about career planning, the Vanguard Student Recognition Program recognizes those individuals who are studying and working in nontraditional career paths. At Barry Tech, students eligible for this recognition include girls in such programs as automotive technology and aviation operations, as well as boys in health services programs, cosmetology, child development and fashion design technology.
