Summer Internships a Big Success
Students from Barry Tech are out in full force gaining vaulable knowledge and true hands-on work experience. Philip Jackson, a junior from Mepham High School, from Barry Tech's Auto Tech Program, is working full-time as an Automotive Technician's Assistant at Hassel BMW in Freeport through the AYES (Automotive Youth Educational Systems) Program. Cosmetology interns bring cheer to hospital patients …
Barry Tech Cosmetology students brought smiles to the faces of patients at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hospital. As part of an internship program under the guidance of teacher Carol Stoddard, Cosmetology students provided hairdressing services to patients one day a week for an hour and a half. Not only did the students gain valuable experience for their chosen careers, they also had a positive effect on the patients they visited and the hospital community as a whole.
A Visit from the Nassau County Police Commissioner
On May 12, 2010, Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence W. Mulvey visited Mr. Golod and Ms. Williams Police Science & Criminal Justice classes. The Commissioner discussed having a BOCES Youth Police Academy where students will work directly with the Nassau County Police Academy Instructors.
