Certified Personal Trainer - Performance Fitness Instructor

This program has been designed to be the leading, most cutting-edge program available for our students and to prepare them for this emerging career. Students will learn the science of strength, conditioning, fitness assessment, and designing exercise programs for the general population and athlete. Additionally, they will learn how to differentiate facts from fallacies when it comes to the human body, exercise, and nutrition. Students who successfully complete this course will have the opportunity to earn nationally accredited certification from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the Academy of Applied Personal Training Education (AAPTE).
 
This course includes both practical (hands-on) skill training and classroom theory learning.  Our comprehensive program covers personal training/health and fitness instruction, as well as performing health and fitness assessments.
 
Coursework will build a solid foundation for future educational and career interests such as athletic training, physical education, allied health sciences, and sports medicine.
Curriculm Includes:

• human anatomy – introduction to the structure and function of the muscular
  skeletal/nervous and cardiovascular systems
• anatomical and medical terminology
• nutrition
• functional anatomy
• resistance training biomechanics
• anatomy and physiology of human performance
• joint range of motion/flexibility
• spinal mechanics
• medical conditions
• emergency and first-aid procedures
• program design for aerobic endurance
  and cardiorespiratory fitness
• program design for weight management
• resistance training program design
• business of personal training
• facility management
• equipment maintenance
• ethics of personal training
• psychology and personal training

Course available: Grade 11 -12
Course length: 2 years
Placement: Regular
Credits: Up to 4 CTE credits per year
