Auto Collision Technician

This course provides practical instruction in basic auto body repair, and moves on to advanced techniques and technology. Students estimate repair costs and learn about managing a shop. In the 2nd year, all repairs, including those for actual customers, are expected to meet or surpass industry standards.
 
Upon completion of a two-year course of study students may earn up to 4 I-CAR (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair) certification credits.
 
Students will learn how to:
 
• use auto body plastics
• work with specialized equipment and spray paints
• restore cars to their original condition
• customize (an increasingly popular part of the field)
 
They will also learn techniques in:
 
sheet metal straightening
sheet metal alignment
plastic repair
painting and refinishing
compounding and polishing
diagnosing and measuring damage
estimating repairs
 

Course Available: Grade 11
Course Length: 2 years
Placement: Regular
Credits: Up to 4 CTE credits a year
Admissions Criteria: Strong gross and fine motor coordination and attention to detail
