Business Service Skills

In this course, students will learn all the relevant skills needed to perform in today’s technology-oriented office environment. They will receive individualized instruction in computer skills, business document formatting, business math, filing techniques, mailroom skills, and telephone usage and etiquette. They will be introduced to business technology, including the basics in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Students will also learn to use copy and fax machines.
 
Students will develop professional skills including:
• time management
• teamwork
• interpersonal relations
• effective communication
• personal and professional management
 
Young trainees will learn how to:
• prepare and edit letters, memos, tables, columns, and reports
• compute payrolls with overtime and commissions
• keep an inventory using spreadsheets
 

Course available: Grades 11 or 12
Course length: 1 or 2 years

Credits: Up to 4 CTE credits a year
