Bioethical Issues in Science

This course will analyze the study of ethical and moral implications of new biological discoveries and biomedical advances that are occurring within the field of science and that may have a significant impact on life. Students will think critically and utilize scientific concepts to engage in analysis of the issue(s), demonstrate problem-solving techniques and strategically plan alternative solutions regarding some controversial issues in the field. Examples of topics that will be evaluated include, but are not limited to, genetic testing for insurance companies, stem cell research, cloning, use of animals for testing and genetic engineering.
 

 
(1/2 credit elective) Spring Semester ONLY
Prerequisite: Passed at least 1 NYS Science Regents exam
This course may be used instead of Applied Science in conjunction with Environmental Science if a full year (1 credit) is needed. It is not a Regents-level course, but created for Barry Tech students who want to focus on this area for their 3rd year of Science credit.
